Giancarlo Piretti is a designer who has had a profound impact on the history of Italian design. He has developed an innovative approach to creating seats. Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. He studied at the Istituto Statale d'Arte. He then worked as an interior designer and created interior furniture, furniture for offices as well as the iconic Plia chair which was acclaimed by critics and won the SMAU prize. He is often credited with changing the way the world thinks about Italian design.
